VisionPath vs Compulink
A specialty medical EHR with an optical module. Formidable for an eye clinic; a lot of system for a store. Compulink has built specialty EHR and practice management software since 1985, and eye care is only part of its business: the same platform serves ophthalmology, ambulatory surgery centres and a dozen other medical specialties. Its Advantage product for optometry includes optical POS and inventory alongside the EHR. For a medical eye practice it is a serious, proven choice. For a store where the counter is the business, it is a medical system with a dispensary attached.
Where Compulink is the better choice
- Medical eye care at scale. Ophthalmology workflows, glaucoma flowsheets, cataract and LASIK surgery planning, and a link from the office EHR to a surgery centre.
- Medical billing, which VisionPath does not do: unlimited plans and fee schedules, electronic claims and remittance, and a revenue cycle management billing service if you want someone else to run it.
- Equipment and partners. Compulink says it interfaces with over 400 ophthalmic devices and works with partners including VisionWeb.
- An ONC-certified EHR, a long history, and use in colleges of optometry.
Where VisionPath is
- The counter. Two pairs on one sale, the lab ticket to spec, the doctor's Rx kept apart from the copy on the card, contact lens reorders on the same board as the glasses.
- The work-order scanner and the assistant, built around the counter rather than the exam room.
- A published price. Compulink quotes per practice; VisionPath is $399 a month per location on the page, with unlimited staff.
- Support from an optician, not a queue.

The honest verdict. An ophthalmology or medical optometry practice, a surgery centre in the picture, or medical billing that pays the bills: Compulink is built for that and we would point you to it. An optical store where the frames, the lenses and the lab orders are the business: VisionPath is built for your day, and we will say so on the call if it is not.
